SHELTER PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, the Program Assistant is dedicated to providing essential services and support, coordinating efforts, and advocating for participants in the emergency shelter.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the smooth operation of program service delivery.
- Provide education, workshops, and knowledge to participants regarding living and social skills.
- Collaborate with case managers to ensure activities align with individual case management plans.
- Document life goal assessments and progress with individual goals in collaboration with case managers.
- Record all activities of clients while part of the program.
- Provide transportation assistance as needed.
- Provide assistance and support to improve the stability of all clients.
- Observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources to provide quality services.
- Offer assistance and support to help participants achieve stability and goals in their daily lives.
- Ensure timely and accurate record reporting in HMIS, including all service transactions.
- Complete other assigned duties as needed.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Computer skills; HMIS experience is desired but not required.
- Preferred: Experience working with homeless/low-income/mentally ill/substance abuse and addicted populations
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance required
- Ability to relate to people from all socioeconomic backgrounds
- Knowledge of the community, including non-profit organizations/partners, and a good understanding of the social and economic structure of the communities in and around the Birmingham area
